Harry Carey, Jr.
.......A reliable character actor, mostly in Westerns, Harry Carey, Jr. was born May 16, 1921 to his movie star parents - Harry and Olive Carey - on their ranch north of Los Angeles. His father nicknamed him "Dobe" shortly after his birth because his red hair reminded him of the adobe soil on the ranch. .......Carey grew up among cattle and horses. Because of the many Navajo Indians who worked on the ranch, he spoke Navajo before he spoke English. During World War II he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific as a medical corpsman, but was transferred (against his will) to serve under his father's friend, director John Ford, in the O.S.S. After the war and a couple small acting parts, he was given a chance to work with his father in the picture Red River (1948). After his father's death, John Ford gave the younger Carey a leading role in the film Ford dedicated to Carey Sr., 3 Godfathers (1948). As a full-fledged member of the famed John Ford Stock Company, Carey appeared in many of Ford's greatest Westerns over the next two decades. .......He also starred in a TV series-within-a-series, The Adventures of Spin and Marty, which aired as part of The Mickey Mouse Club. His extreme boyishness characterized his early years, but he matured into a strong and very familiar character actor in scores of films over a period of more than forty years. In 1994, he co-starred in the movie Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer, one of the greatest Westerns in recent years. .......Dobe is married to the former Marilyn Fix, daughter of actor Paul Fix. They have both been great friends of Coach G and Paula for over 10 years and are avid Icecat fans. Coach enjoys talking to "Old Dobe", as John Wayne called him, and Marilyn about their life together and all the legendary actors they worked with. |

He has appeared on Will and Grace, Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Gomer Pyle, Perry Mason, Jack Benny, Thriller, The Twilight Zone, Dragnet, and Leave It To Beaver to name a few. .......He has authored several books including "The Story of Vic and Sade" and "Gibby" - one of Coach G's favorite books - which recalls his memoirs as a World War II fighter pilot. His books are available at Amazon.com. Coach G enjoys talking to Bill about his writing school and his extraordinary life in show business. |

Loggia poked fun at his "mobster" roles when he played a bumbling corrupt union boss in the John Candy film Armed And Dangerous, but later returned to such roles with a fifth season guest spot in The Sopranos. In 1985, Loggia was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his portrayal of a crusty detective in the thriller Jagged Edge.
